Ole Miss had high hopes to be competitive against Alabama this year. After being beaten 3-66 by Alabama last season, the Rebels were ready to redeem themselves and show Alabama what their No. 1 offense was all about.

Even with one of the best offenses in the country, Ole Miss has one of the worst defenses in the country and was going to be put to the test against the reigning national champions.

The very first play of the game was an insane 75 yard pass from Jordan Ta’amu to D.K. Metcalf for a touchdown. Vaught-Hemingway Stadium went crazy as the Rebels thought this could be the year they beat Alabama again. It was all downhill from there though. Alabama exposed the weak Ole Miss defense and proved how this is one of the best Alabama offenses we have seen in years. Both Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts put on a show on the Alabama offense. Hurts and Tagovailoa both threw for two touchdowns. Tagovailoa had a remarkable 79 yard pass to Jerry Jeudy for a touchdown and a 12 yard pass to Irv Smith Jr. for a touchdown with an impressive catch by Smith. Hurts had a 22 yard pass to Jeudy and a 13 yard pass to Henry Ruggs III both for touchdowns. Ole Miss couldn’t stop the run game either. Alabama’s speed was too much for the Rebels. Damien Harris had an impressive 43 yard run for a touchdown. Najee Harris and Josh Jacobs both had rushing touchdowns as well. Jacobs puts his “fins up” after he scored a touchdown, making fun of Ole Miss’s landshark defense and their mascot, Tony the Landshark. Alabama scored 49 of its 62 points in the first half, only scoring two field goals and a pick 6 in the second half.

The young Alabama defense thought they were going to have a hard match up against the Rebels, but they quickly shut that down. The Tide held Ole Miss to 133 passing yards, 75 of those were from the first pass touchdown, and 115 rushing yards.

Whatever got the best of the Rebels this past weekend, whether it was nerves, adrenaline or lack of preparation, the Rebels will look to get back on track and build their confidence up against Kent State this weekend, with LSU coming up in two weeks. Alabama will have a touch game against Texas A&M in Tuscaloosa this weekend.
